When is the Best Time of Year to Replace My Roof?

You're thinking (or your leaking roof is telling you) that it's time to repair your roof. This is a major decision that should not be taken lightly, regardless of the size of your house. You want to make sure you hire the right roof roofing contractor, that the roof is installed correctly, and that the weather cooperates during the installation.

Fall (September, October, November)

Temperatures vary between 45 and 85 degrees, providing better working conditions for roof installers and allowing them to finish the project on time. Since some storm seasons are still in place, fall can bring more precipitation than summer, but rain delays are less likely to be a problem the earlier in the season you start. Perfect weather, with low humidity and little rain, gives your shingles the time they need to properly seal before the snowy months arrive.

Spring (March, April, May)

Since roofing contractors aren't as busy in the winter as they are in the summer, they should be able to get you in sooner rather than later. This is a huge job you'll be able to cross off your list, allowing you to enjoy your summer without worrying about leaks!

As we get more sun and less snow, the weather is much milder than it was in the winter. The spring months have lower humidity than the summer months, which reduces the risk of moisture damaging the roof during the replacement.

Summer (June, July, August)

The earlier in the summer you can get started, the better. The temperature will be lower, the heat will be less oppressive, and the extreme summer storms will not yet have arrived. If you build the roof sooner rather than later, you will be able to save money in the long run by being more energy-efficient.

The sun creates a lot of heat in the summer, which allows the tar strip on the back of asphalt shingles to activate and stick properly. This will help avoid potential leaks or fly-offs!

Winter (December, January, February)

Roofers will continue to upgrade your home's roof despite the snow, cold, and ice! The winter season has its own set of challenges, but if done correctly, you can upgrade your home's roof when it's still cold outside. The most significant advantage of having your roof installed in the winter is:

  • Availability of the roofer

Roofing firms are least busy throughout the winter. As long as the weather permits, you can be able to get on the schedule sooner than in any other season. If you're having problems, this might be helpful!

Final Words:

The good news is that you can rebuild your roof at any time of year as long as you hire the right contractor. Depending on the health of your roof, tree coverage, venue, and whether you're looking at asphalt shingles, metal roofing, or solar roofing, it's best to speak with a roofing contractor to decide which season will be best for your house.
